Undoubtedly, South Africa stands as one of the powerhouses in international cricket. Nevertheless, their journey in ODI World Cups has been marred by unfortunate circumstances. The Proteas have never advanced to the finals in any ODI World Cup tournament. In the previous edition of the ODI World Cup in 2019, South Africa fell short of securing a spot in the top four, missing the semi-finals. Out of 9 matches played, they won 3, lost 5, and had 1 no result, ultimately finishing in the 7th position on the points table.

South Africa’s World Cup team boasts seasoned batters including Quinton de Kock, Reeza Hendricks, Heinrich Klaasen, Aiden Markram, David Miller, and Rassie van der Dussen.

In the fast bowling department, Kagiso Rabada will lead the charge, supported by Anrich Nortje and Lungi Ngidi. Considering the tournament’s location in India, spinners Keshav Maharaj and Tabraiz Shamsi have also been included in the squad. Reflecting on the squad selection for the World Cup, the Protea Men’s white-ball head coach, Rob Walter, stated, “It’s great having a mix of experienced players and players who will be competing in their first 50-over World Cup – you get that sort of exuberance of excitement to be doing something for the first time.”
