“Very Tough” for Virat Kohli to Surpass 100 Centuries, Says Brian Lara

Cricketing icon Brian Lara has voiced doubt regarding Virat Kohli’s ability to surpass Sachin Tendulkar’s legendary record of 100 international centuries. Despite acknowledging Kohli’s exceptional batting skills and being an admirer, Lara perceives the challenge of achieving this feat as a formidable one. In an interview with Anandabazar Patrika, Lara emphasized the tough journey that lies ahead for Kohli.

Kohli’s current age is 35, right? With 80 centuries to his name, he still requires 20 more. If he manages to score five centuries annually, it would take him an additional four years to match Tendulkar. By that time, Kohli will be 39. It’s a challenging task, a very tough one.

Lara dismissed the idea that Kohli’s age might impede his quest for this milestone, recognizing that age is an inevitable factor for any athlete. While acknowledging Kohli’s outstanding skills and commitment, Lara maintained a pragmatic viewpoint.

“It’s impossible to say definitively; nobody can predict. Those asserting that Kohli will surpass Tendulkar’s record of 100 centuries may not be considering the logic of cricket. Achieving 20 more centuries is a significant challenge. Many cricketers can’t achieve that throughout their entire careers. I won’t venture to say Kohli will accomplish it. Age is a constant consideration for everyone. While Kohli is certain to break numerous records, reaching 100 centuries appears to be the most formidable one,” he remarked. Despite his reservations, Lara extended his best wishes to Kohli and expressed his delight if he were to achieve this remarkable feat.

T20 International Career in Limbo for Both Virat Kohli & Rohit Sharma?

Two of the most accomplished batsmen of this era, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, find themselves facing an uncertain future in white-ball cricket. Since the culmination of the T20 World Cup 2022, neither player has featured in a T20 international, and they are not included in India’s plans for the upcoming assignment in South Africa. As discussions intensify within the cricketing community regarding their potential return to T20 cricket, opinions remain divided. Sanjay Manjrekar, a former India cricketer, believes that a decision on the duo’s participation in the T20 World Cup 2024 should be made closer to the tournament.
