Rohit Sharma is set to captain India in the upcoming three-match T20I series against Afghanistan, as announced by the BCCI on Sunday (January 7).
This signals the return of Rohit to the shortest format, alongside Virat Kohli. Both players last featured in a T20 match against England at the Adelaide Oval during the 2022 T20 World Cup semi final in Australia.
Notably, Jitesh Sharma and Sanju Samson have been chosen as the two wicket keeping options for India in their final T20I series leading up to the 2024 World Cup.
In addition to the ongoing recovery of Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav from injuries, several key players, including Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammed Siraj, have not been selected for the series. In the squad, the trio of Arshdeep Singh, Avesh Khan, and Mukesh Kumar comprises the pace bowling department. Additionally, the team boasts four spin options: Ravi Bishnoi, Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav.
The three-match series is scheduled to commence on January 11 in Mohali.
